The Quilt Top is Finished!

This is going to be a really quick post. I just wanted to do a little happy dance because I finished the Little One's quilt top!

You can see my last update here. I used a charm pack of Come Dive with Me, by Whistler Studios and most of a yard of Cotton Supreme Solids in Optical White. The pattern you can find here, and it's incredibly easy to follow.

That's it! Told you it would be quick. Today was the last day of Ramadan, which means tomorrow is Eid, our holy day to celebrate the end of the month of fasting. Which means I've got a lot to do to get ready!

The June Gifted Gorgeousness

Somehow, when I wasn't looking, half of the year has flown by and it's mid-June already. Which means it's time for the June Gifted Gorgeousness SAL check-in! This is the brain-child of Jo from Serendipitous Stitching. We stitch on something that's been gifted to us through exchanges or giveaways, whether a pattern, kit, fabric, floss, whatever, and post on the 15th of the month.

I've been working lately on SamSarah's 3D Fresh Apple - you can see my late update post here - and I've finally finished it!

This pattern was a gift from the awesome Emma at Emma's Bloglet during an exchange a couple of years ago. I've been working on this for ages! Seriously, I started it in November, but I ran out of a floss color and had to wait a while before I could order because I definitely wasn't going to pay shipping charges for one floss.

This cutie is stitched on 28 count Christmas Red Jobelan with the recommended GAST and WDW colors. The stem is an inch of Palomino felted wool twisted around and sewn shut. Here it is with my first two SamSarah fruits:

I've finished the berry, the melon, and the apple so far! Pretty good, considering how stressful it is to finish them off. Seriously, seriously stressful. Like hold-your-breath-the-whole-time-and-hope-you-don't-ruin-it stressful. Especially when you start turning it inside out to stuff it and close it up. Oh man. I did that part so, so, so slowly so nothing would rip.

I'm so happy with how it turned out! I can't wait to fill up the bowl with the rest of the fruit. It'll have to wait, though - I've got so much going on right now it's not even funny! I need to catch up on reading everyone's blogs, for sure. Sorry, you guys. I'm trying, I promise!

Lots of love,

Picking Up an Old Favorite

I'm in-between sheep at the moment, so I thought I'd pick up a WIP that I haven't worked on in a while, Plum Street Sampler's Blackberry House. I actually had to look up how long it's been since I stitched on it at all, and I found a post from January here. It's been almost six months! That's crazy. I can't believe it's just been sitting around for that long. I've been so busy with the Little Sheep Virtues SAL, the Gifted Gorgeousness posts, and the baby quilt I'm putting together, that I just haven't had time, I guess. It's too bad, because I actually really enjoy working on this piece.

So anyway, I stitched on it a bit this week, and here's my progress:

I put in another couple of berries and that dark leaf on the bottom left. Then I went back and traced the veins of the leaves on the right side with white, though I'm not sure you can tell.

The pictures aren't really showing how lovely all the colors are in real life. They're so pretty!

All right, I have to hustle and get back into the kitchen - we've got some friends coming over for dinner tonight. I know I haven't been visiting everyone's blogs as often as I usually do, but bear with me! Ramadan's always a difficult time, but we're already halfway through.

Quilting and Wrinkles!

Hey, everyone! I meant to type this up days ago, but I've had a lot on my plate. My in-laws are still here, and they've kept me super busy. But I have managed to find a few moments here and there to work on one of my WIPs, the cute little baby quilt I'm making for the Little One's birthday.

You can see my last update here. Since then, I've attached the last strips of the Come Dive With Me charm pack and cut up the final border of plain white (not photographed, so you'll have to take my word for it!)

Sorry for all the wrinkles! Aside from pressing the seams, I haven't ironed the whole thing out yet. I don't have a empty surface available at the moment, so it keeps getting folded up in between sewing sessions.

This is slow going, but I'm really happy with my progress on it. I'm so close to being done with the quilt front! And then it's just a matter of binding the whole thing together, which is a little terrifying since I've done it before, but I'm prepared to do a lot of YouTube research!

Kindness Sheep Update 8

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been keeping up with everyone's blogs. My to-be-read list is so long! My husband's entire family is staying with us for a few weeks because of Ramadan, which starts on Saturday. They've already been here six days, and taking care of them (his parents plus two younger sisters) on top of everything I already have to do for myself and the Little One is running me a little ragged already. But complaints are definitely not welcome, so we've just got to soldier on!

I found a little pocket of time this week to finish up the last 100 stitches on Kindness for the Little Sheep Virtues SAL:

So this, finally, is about 1400 stitches. All I did this week was sew on the little bird buttons and stitch the two sheep in Wisper thread. I decided to go with white because of how dark the border already is. Thanks for all your suggestions! They were really helpful.

I unfortunately haven't had time to swing by my LNS to pick up backing fabric (see above insanity), so this cutie is just going to have to wait in the unfinished drawer until I do.

The May Gifted Gorgeousness SAL

Well, I'm three days late, but I've shown up at last! It's time for the May Gifted Gorgeousness SAL check-in! This is the brain-child of Jo from Serendipitous Stitching. We stitch on something that's been gifted to us through exchanges or giveaways, whether a pattern, kit, fabric, floss, whatever, and post on the 15th of the month.

A few months ago I was stitching up SamSarah's 3D Fresh Apple to add to my fruit bowl. You can see my last progress post here. I had to put it aside for awhile because I ran out of the GAST Oatmeal floss, but it arrived a couple of weeks ago (hurray!) and so I picked the Apple up again and finished it off!

You can tell where I had stopped and started again, because there's a very slight change of hue. It's the risk you run with variegated floss, I guess, especially when you don't buy the skeins at the same time from the same dye lot. Oh well!

Next comes the exciting part! I say exciting - the last couple of times it was absolutely nerve-wracking. Just the process of sewing the whole 3D piece together is very stressful. At least it is for me! I'm sure there are plenty of people who find this sort of thing easy-peasy. Stay tuned! Hopefully I'll be able to finish it by next month's GG check-in.

Kindness Sheep Update 7

Oh my goodness, it has taken me literally all week to get my act together. And now it's 11:40 pm on Friday night, and I'm finally getting around to typing this blog post! Oh well, better late than never, I guess?

So here's my progress on the Little Sheep Virtues SAL. I've been working on the Kindness sheep, and here it was last week at 1200 stitches:

And this week's progress, at nearly 1300 stitches:

So since my last update I've finished the border (hallelujah!) and stitched the sheep's heads. I'm saying nearly 1300 stitches because I had 16 stitches left but didn't want to pull out the Wisper thread to stitch the bodies - I still haven't decided what colors to use. Everyone gave me great advice on my last update post though, thank you so much!

I'm also going to need to pop into my LNS to try to find some coordinating fabric for the backing. Wallet, prepare yourself!

Big hugs,
